San Francisco International Airport is promoting itself as a destination for leisure activities. A recent experiment involved approaching strangers at the airport to gauge interest in visiting for fun. The person conducting the experiment spent a significant amount of time at the airport, visiting five terminals over eleven hours.

During this time, they spoke with 31 strangers to gather opinions. Only one of the 31 people approached expressed agreement with the idea of visiting the airport for entertainment purposes, leaving the promoter as a "lonely Gate Explorer".
