Firefighters battled a fire on an abandoned railway trestle near a utility plant on Saturday night. The fire was reported just after 10 p.m. and crews worked to contain it, keeping it from spreading to the nearby building. However, spot fires did break out in the yard of the treatment plant.

Residents in the surrounding area were advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to air quality concerns. The affected area was approximately 3 miles west of a specific intersection.

On Sunday, fire crews continued to work on cooling hot spots on the trestles, with plans to bring in heavy equipment to pull down the remaining smoldering infrastructure.
