Fire crews are battling two wildfires along the Big Sur coast. A small wildfire, known as the Plaskett Fire, erupted in steep terrain in Monterey County, prompting new evacuations. Water-dropping aircraft are being used to attack the fire, which has no containment so far.

The Plaskett Fire is located near Highway 1, which was briefly closed due to the fire. A handful of isolated properties are under evacuation orders and warnings. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Another fire, the Timber Fire, is burning about 40 miles to the north. Crews are performing back-burning operations to try to contain the blaze, which has been active since August 8.
